Dear Colleagues
This international organization was started in November 2000 in Bangkok in order to help e other for establishing internationally-standardized cord blood banks in Asian cities and for fastening search and supply of high quality cord blood for Asian patients. As every patients and physicians can now contact reliable any cord blood banks directly and obtain cord blood easily, major activities of AsiaCORD is gradually shifting much more toward sharing advanced scientific knowledge and technology for cell banking and transplantation by having Annual AsiaCORD Meeting for Progress in Cell Therapy.
In order to develop cord blood transplantation and banking, the leading scientists in the field of umbilical cord blood transplantation and banking in Asia founded the organization,AsiaCORD, on November 9, 2000 in Bangkok, Thailand. We have organized and held the annual meeting, the International Symposium ofAsiaCORD in the counties where AsiaCORD banks exist. During the AsiaCORD meetings, we have discussed the progress of cord blood banking and the medical problems in cord blood transplantation. And we also shared the advanced medical/biological studies, including hematopoietic / messechymal stem cells with the AsiaCORD members. The members of AsiaCORD has established a statutes and standards (minimal requirements) for cord blood banking that is based on the International Standards of FACT/NETCORD while also reflecting each countries standards, ethics, historical background and epidemiology. Recent advanced medicine have been shown that cord blood cells have the great ability not only as the hematopoietic stem cells for transplantation, but also as tissue stem cells for regenerative medicine. The first five years, we support the establishment of cord blood banking and search system inAsia . In the next five years, our mission is focus on promoting research aspect of cord blood cells, placenta and cord in the field of regenerative medicine, immunology, genome and fetal medicine, etiological medicine and epigenomic medicine accompanied in Asia.
To pursue these researches, we also introduce the regulatory science for the ethical and safety matters. AsiaCORD is open to membership applications from additional cord blood banks in Asia who are able to comply with the standards and sharer their goal to supply cord blood units of only the highest quality to patients whithin Asia.
